Chop & Drop in Southeast Wisconsin

When a tree needs to come down, the biggest question is usually what happens afterward. Hauling away a full-grown oak or maple takes time, equipment, and a crew willing to do backbreaking work. That cleanup is where a huge chunk of the bill comes from. Our Chop & Drop service skips that part entirely. We bring the tree down safely and leave the wood right there on your property for you to deal with on your own schedule. If you heat with wood, have a fire pit, or know someone who wants free firewood (DIY chopping), this is the service that makes the most sense for your situation.

What Is Our Chop & Drop Service?

Chop & Drop is the straightforward version of tree removal. Our crew handles everything that requires professional training and specialized equipment: the felling, the limbing, and the sectioning. Once the tree is down and cut into manageable pieces, we walk away and you take it from there. You get the same level of expertise and safety protocols as a full removal, just without the hauling and site cleanup that drives the price up.

Our Chop & Drop service includes:

  • Initial Assessment - Evaluating tree condition, location, and any hazards in the surrounding area
  • Strategic Planning - Determining the safest method to bring the tree down given its size and proximity to structures
  • Professional Cutting - Using proper techniques and commercial-grade equipment
  • Limb Removal - Cutting and dropping branches systematically from the canopy down

Not included: Trunk sectioning, hauling, debris removal, or site cleanup. The cut wood stays on your property for you to manage however you see fit.

When Do You Need Chop & Drop?

Chop & Drop works well if you already have a plan for the wood, whether that means splitting it for firewood, stacking it for a neighbor, or just burning it in a backyard fire pit over the summer. It also makes sense if you have a truck and trailer and would rather haul it yourself than pay someone else to do it. Plenty of homeowners in the Greater Muskego area choose this option because the savings are real and the wood has genuine value to them.

How Chop & Drop Works

The process is the same as a full tree removal up until the very end. Here is what to expect when our crew shows up.

1

Free On-Site Assessment

We evaluate the tree's condition, size, location, and any obstacles like power lines or structures. We'll explain our recommended approach and provide a written estimate.

2

Safety Zone Setup

On removal day, we establish a clear work zone, protect landscaping and structures, and position equipment for safe operation.

3

Strategic Limb Removal

Our climbers remove branches section by section, starting from the top. For larger trees, we use rigging systems to lower heavy limbs safely.

Timeline: Most Chop & Drop jobs wrap up in a few hours. Larger trees or complicated setups near structures might take a full day.

Safety Measures: All crew members are trained in OSHA safety standards. A certified arborist will be on job site to safety measures. We carry full liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage for your protection.

Factors That Affect Cost

  • Tree height and trunk diameter
  • Canopy spread and total branch volume
  • How close the tree is to your home, garage, fence, or power lines
  • Whether equipment can access the tree easily or needs to come through tight spaces
  • Tree species, since hardwoods like oak and maple take longer to section
  • Whether the tree is dead, diseased, or in a hazardous lean

Frequently Asked Questions About Chop & Drop

Chop & Drop is our streamlined tree removal service. We bring the tree down professionally, and leave the wood on your property. You handle the cleanup and disposal whenever it works for you. It is the same crew, same equipment, and same safety standards as a full removal, just without the hauling.
Most homeowners save somewhere in the range of 30 to 40 percent compared to a full-service removal. The cleanup and hauling portion of a tree job is labor-intensive and time-consuming, so removing that from the equation makes a meaningful difference in the final number. (Prices displayed on-website are not official quotes or estimates.)
Everything stays right where it falls within the work zone. A lot of our customers in the Muskego and New Berlin area chop the wood themselves and use it for heating, fire pits, or give it to a friend who wants it.
Absolutely. You can add cleanup at the time of the job or call us afterward and we will come back to haul everything away. Keep in mind, it is most cost effective to let us know while booking the job. If you request this after the job is booked, it'll be a higher rate. If you request cleanup after the job done, it will be an even higher rate. This is because of the labor and travel time of multiple trips and tasks.
Yes. We use the exact same techniques and safety protocols as a full tree removal. Our climbers rig heavy limbs and lower them with control, and we have crane service available when the situation calls for it. The only difference between Chop & Drop and a full removal is what happens to the wood once it is on the ground.
Stump grinding is a separate service that gets quoted on its own. After the Chop & Drop, the stump stays cut close to ground level. You can add grinding the same day or schedule it for later.
Permit requirements depend on your municipality and are the same whether you choose Chop & Drop or full removal. Some cities in Waukesha County require permits for trees above a certain trunk diameter. We can walk you through what your city requires and help with the paperwork if needed.
We handle trees of any size with Chop & Drop, from smaller ornamentals all the way up to large hardwoods over 80 feet. Just keep in mind that a bigger tree produces a lot more wood, so make sure you have a realistic plan for dealing with the volume before you go this route.
